The Corporation series came about through observing the desks in a few of my acquaintances’ workplaces. The objects there become so everyday that, at a certain point, they are rendered invisible, fade into the woodwork, escape one’s attention. These photographs are my attempt to deconstruct this ‘woodwork’. I capture these essences in the formal brackets of details, individual pieces of office equipment. The neutral aesthetic is part of my critique of the corporation; antiseptic, clarity, and artificiality are basic terms in the corporate vocabulary. The randomness of the objects is dominated by the rules this language imposes. I wanted to show the arbitrariness behind these formal rules. Abstracting single cases from their natural environment makes a powerful statement about the dominance of the system. The evident artificiality is vital from a formal point of view. The question I pose explores the border between photography and graphic art.
