Rafał Milach wins in New York!

Rafał Milach – photographer, member of the curatorial board of this year’s ShowOFF Section (protégés Bartłomiej Lurka and the duo of Thomas Liboska and Michał Jędrzejowski) has won a slew of awards on the New York Photo Festival, including the most important: the Jury's Choice Grand Prize for In the car with R. In addition, the project received an Honorable Mention in the category Book Project for In the car with R. Milach also won first prize in the Advertising category for his clothing campaign for House.

The photographer himself says of the award-winning project: "In the car with R” is an essay which was developed in collaboration with the writer Huldar Breidfjord, and is part of the project and book for the IS (not) collective Sputnik Photos. I am delighted that the project won in the context of the book. It's a beautiful object, and includes excellent work by the photographers, the writers, the curator Andrzej Kramarz and designer Ania Nałęcka.
 
 
Rafał Milach, born 1978.
 
A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and the Institute of Creative Photography in Opava (Czech Republic). He currently works in Warsaw as a freelancer. His photos have appeared in: “Time”, “Newsweek”, “GQ”, “Le Monde 2, “Courier International”, and “D de Repubblica”. 
 
His most widely known – Disappearing Circus, Black Sea of Concrete and 7 Rooms have been presented at the Photoespana, Look3, Photography festivals and the Museum for Contemporary Art MoCA in Shanghai. They are part of the permanent exhibition in the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts in Japan.
 
In 2002 Rafał Milach’s first photo album was published, entitled Szare (The Grey). In 2007, his work qualified for the Joop Swart Masterclass as part of World Press Photo, and for this project he received the awards: World  Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International and Photography Book Now. 
 
He currently teaches documentary photography at the Academy of Photography in Warsaw. He is also co-founder of the photographic art group Sputnik Photos.
