Receive broadcasting & Photomonth in Krakow presents: Eskmo and King Cannibal

News date: 2011-06-09

Photomonth in Krakow and Radiofoni invite you to MFK’s last weekend! On June 11 at the Manggha Centre of Japanese Art and Technology in Krakow the last party of this year's Festival will take place, and at the same time the latest edition of radiofonia receive will be broadcast featuring stars from the Ninja Tune label. Eskmo and King Cannibal will be on stage.

What would June in Krakow be without radiofonia’s birthday? Despite its brief life, but thanks to its indefatigable energy, radiofonia has succeeded in organising some great concerts already. On 11 June the latest concert in the receive cycle will be taking place at the Manggha Centre of Japanese Art and Technology. The event’s absolutely unique since it’s combined with the Finale of Photomonth.
After last year's madness at the Manggha Centre of Japanese Art and Technology starring Pink Freud, Rob Swift and The Bug with MC Flowdan, radiofonia set the bar high. Over the last year, too, they have not given up, organising concerts with Pantha Du Prince, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Submerged and Scorn, so that for their second birthday they could invite two artists thanks to whom the famous British label Ninja Tune is experiencing a renaissance. These are young and highly promising artists, and they’ve already been noticed by the biggest stars in electronic music. This time Krakow will be hosting Ninja Tune’s two rising stars – Eskmo and King Cannibal.

ESKMO

“One of the best productions I’ve heard recently,” said Amon Tobin about Eskmo’s most recent album.
Brendan Angelides – musician, producer, and owner of the Ancestor label.
He started in the mid-90s, when, fascinated by bands like Primus, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers and Moby, he started his own bands playing bass guitar.
His first adventures with electronica began with the Miracle keyboard and a 4-track. He recorded his tracks mainly for friends or as school projects. Between 1999 and 2005 he recorded two albums, which he distributed at local gigs.
Over the past five years, after he fell in love with the urban spaces of San Francisco and settled there permanently, he’s recorded a host of singles and EPs (which appeared on Warp and Planet Mu). Angelides not only works solo, but collaborates with Alexander Dennis (EPROM), Flying Lotus (he played on “Brainfeeder Sessions”) or Tobin himself, with whom he has the joint project ESKAMON, where the musicians play with sounds taken from the street. He also does remixes, and has worked on tracks by Bibio, Spor, STS9 and Bear in Heaven. In 2010, he signed a contract with the famous British label Ninja Tune.  “Cloudlight” turned up on the Ninja Tune XX compilation, which included music summarising the label’s 20-year history.
In October 2010, he released his debut “Eskmo”. The release, containing 13 new tracks, was very well received not just by critics but also by other musicians.
“One of the best productions I’ve heard recently,” in the words of Amon Tobin, or “he just crushes the soundsystem,” from URB magazine are just two of many incredibly positive reviews. Will our soundsystem be crushed on June 11?

KING CANNIBAL

“Really phat beats” – so said Kevin Martin (The Bug), who played at last year’s receive festival, of King Cannibal’s debut album “Let The Night Roar”.
His name began to shine with his great remixes, which conquered the music world. Before he had released anything under his own name, he remixed Amon Tobin’s track “Bloodstone”. He did it so well, that the track ended up on the album Ninja Tune XX – a compilation summarising the label’s twenty-year history.
Not only that: after two appearances on the legendary “Solid Steel” programme as the first musician without a signed contract, he had the honour of playing in Strictly Kev & D. Ks club Solid Steel. Also, a year before the disc was released, King Cannibal received great support from big names in the world of electronic music. He appeared on BBC Radio 1 on the Mary Anne Hobbs show, where, in the program “Scorn vs. King Cannibal Soundclash Special And Aragami Style”, he duelled with one of the artists from April’s receive in. He’s worked with Bong-Ra, remixed The Qemists...
The release of Dylan Richards’ debut album only confirmed that the support he’d received from the aces of electronica was not accidental. The uncompromising combination of phat and chopped beats with light rhythms, the easy shift from drum'n'bass, rave and dancehall to dubstep – it all makes this premiere one of the hottest in 2009.

The next radiofonia receive will be on 11 June 2011 at 21:00 at the Manggha Centre of Japanese Art and Technology in Krakow. This is the Finale of the 9th Photomonth in Krakow Festival.

Tickets cost 50 zł and are available until 10 June at
