Photomonth in Krakow begins today! Over thirty exhibitions and nearly sixty accompanying events: meetings with artists, lectures, film screenings, and workshops. The Main Programme of the festival is devoted to Great Britain this year. It opens on May 7th at 6:00 p.m. – as per tradition, at Starmach Gallery.
The weekend’s openings begin today at 6:00 p.m. at Starmach Gallery with an opening of a solo exhibition by a precursor of the British social documentary photograph, Tony Ray-Jones. At 8:00 p.m. two more exhibitions will be opening at the Bunkier Sztuki: the first, Diary of a Cockroach and Other Stories, presents works by Anna Fox – an artist who was nominated for the prestigious Deutsche Börse Photography Prize this year, whose work combines personal experience with insightful social observation. The second opening is the Nothing is in the Place exhibition (curator: Jason Evans), recalling the 1990s and the social changes that took place, particularly in the “extasy generation”. To cap off the evening we invite you to Pauza, for an opening of photographs by John Stezaker, and then the first day will end with a party, featuring the music of The Phantom and Zeppy Zep.
