Western!

News date: 2010-05-22

He has photographed stars of film and stage, celebrities and politicians, writers and sports personalities. Kora, Lynch, Małysz, Staniszkis, Houllebecq, Shuty, Bartoszewski, Sasnal, Zimbardo, Krawczyk, Tusk, Prońko… this is just the beginning of the list of personalities who have appeared in front of Kuba Dąbrowski’s lens. His work has been published in “Viva”, “Machina”, “Exclusive”, “Elle”, “City Magazine", “DIK Fagazine”, “Newsweek Polska” and “Die Zeit”, among many others. He has had individual exhibitions in Białystok, Berlin, Budapest and Tokyo, as well as many other cities. He is also a regular guest at Photomonth in Kraków as a photographer and curator. Today – exceptionally – he will be meeting us as the author of his recently published book Western – which is appearing in a print run of just 300 copies, each of which is signed by the author and numbered. The book may be bought exclusively during two meetings with the author. The first of these (and the only one in Kraków) is happening today in Baraka at 3 pm, as part of Photomonth in Kraków. Karol Hordziej and Andrzej Kramarz will be talking with Kuba Dąbrowski about Western.

“I’ve published a book. I’ve always wanted to, and here it is at last. I’m over the moon.
“The book is called ‘Western’, and it’s fairly small – more like an EP than a full album. It isn’t any kind of summary, there'll be time for that later – 'Western’ only includes new things, never before published (except two). This book is a bit like a blog post, only more thought out and on paper. The photos are about Monika, the winter of the century, travelling by train, lying in bed and watching films. As usual.”

And in the evening, don’t forget about the Fotokasty – A Review! Today there will be an outdoor screening of the works which received awards and distinctions in the “Newsreportage 2009” competition in the Fotokasty category.
