This is the last weekend for Photomonth in Kraków: most of our exhibitions are only open until tomorrow, so... come and join us!
Before the huge collections of photographs return to their owners in the UK, though, you can still take part in festival events. Today at 3 pm, we invite you to the premiere of the Polish publication of Susan Sontag’s Regarding the Pain of Others. The discussion about the letters of the author of On Photography will include: GraĹźyna Kubica-Heller of the Department of Social Anthropology at the Jagiellonian University’s Institute of Sociology, Dr. hab. MaĹgorzata Radkiewicz of the Jagiellonian University’s Institute of the Audiovisual Arts, and Ĺukasz TrzciĹski.
Right after the discussion, we invite you to the final of the Photographic Publication of the Year competition, which is also taking place at Galeria Camelot. The final will be presented by Krzysztof Makowski. Eighty eight titles have qualified for the competition, and they will be assessed in the categories of album, catalogue, criticism/aesthetics/history, and technical. All the qualifying and prizewinning books will be displayed during the most important festivals, sector business fairs, and photographic events during 2010/2011 (Kraków, Warsaw, ĹódĹş, JarosĹaw).
And from 5 pm we’ll be enjoying ourselves at the youngest of Kraków’s trendiest clubs – Klub Fabryka – at the Unceremonial Closing of the Festival. To start with, we have a picnic and a DJ set. At 8 pm there will be a concert by Gówno, who are a pastiche punk band from GdaĹsk. And from 10 pm, there will be a party on several stages, Swaggerjax from London, Khan of Finland, Eltron John, Max Skiba live!, Kosakot, and Artur 8. Come and join us!
