Tony Ray Jones – a very British photographer
The National Media Museum holds the Tony Ray Jones Archive. Consisting of vintage(negatyw) and modern prints, contact sheets(odbitka), transparencies(klisze), notebooks, book dummies and ephemera(, it offers a uniquely full exploration of this important and influential photographer’s short yet prolific career. Greg Hobson will talk about the background to Ray Jones’ work and his influences and motivations during a pivotal period in British photographic history.
Greg Hobson is Curator of Photographs at the National Media Museum. Recent projects include 'Animalism', and Neeta Madahar's Bradford Fellowship exhibition. He is currently working on solo exhibitions with Simon Roberts, David Spero and Mark Neville and a thematic exhibition looking at photography and murder. He is actively developing the Museum's Collections strategies, in particular in the acquisition of key British works of photography. He manages the Museum's Photography Bursary, which supports the work of emerging photographers and is now in its fourth year. He is also contributing to the curatorial development of the Museum's plans for a London gallery space.
