PHOTOMONTH IN KRAKOW — 2011
DUSTING OFF FAMILY ARCHIVES
Dusting Off Family Archives is a unique social campaign carried out by the Archaeology of Photography Foundation as part of the Fotorejestr project.
The campaign’s goal is primarily to disseminate basic knowledge on the protection of home photo archives, and the need to create a digital record. You’ll learn how, with only small outlays in cost and time, to save priceless images from the past which, whatever their artistic value, are of great importance for studying the history of society and culture. Sometimes simply moving boxes of photographs away from the radiator, removing them from the basement, or repackaging the negatives can save a private collection from destruction.
The campaign will start with a lecture by Karolina Lewandowska, who will talk about issues and techniques for protecting private archives, followed by consultations addressed to those who have private collections of photographs and would like to learn how to save their archives, and are interested in collecting photography.
