Great Britain, 2007, 60 min

The American photographer Garry Winogrand confessed that what made him want to take photos was the desire to “what the world looks like in photographs”. Portraiture of the community became, in the late 50s, the main subject of photographs. The episode Paper Movies shows Robert Frank’s journey round America in the fifties, the street photography of William Klein – the portrayer of New York, Garry Winogrand’s , famed series from The Bronx Zoo, as well as the photographs of Tony Ray Jones from the his period in the UK, and William Eggleston’s guide to Memphis and the Southern States. The fourth episode of the series also shows the beginnings of colour photography.
