PHOTOMONTH IN KRAKOW — 2011
SNAP JUDGEMENTS
Great Britain, 2007, 60 min
The last episode of the series asks about the value of photography today. Some correspond precisely: $ 2.9 million. This is the – record – price reached by a photo by Edward Steinch at an auction at Sotheby's in February 2006. Others argue that 1/29 billionth of this amount, based on calculations which show that in 2006 alone 29 billion photos were taken, and those only with camera phones.
Photography has never been as ubiquitous as today, digital technology has substantially expanded the availability of means and possibilities of this medium. On the other hand, many contemporary photographers are once again discovering the techniques which characterised photography in its youth. Snap Judgements includes the work of Jeff Wall, Andreas Gursky, Gregory Crewdson and Wang Qingsong.
