PHOTOMONTH IN KRAKOW — 2012
PICTURES FOR LOOKING AT AND SCULPTURE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY.
Untitled, from the series Pictures for looking at, 2007–2011 © Jason Evans
Jason Evans (b. Holyhead, 1968) is a photographer.
This show brings selections from two recent bodies of work into a dialogue with themselves and the audience, who are, in turn, invited to bring their cameras and make their own record of the exhibits.
The still-life pictures are designed for the eye. There is no conceptual explanation intended; they are the products of process and intuition.
The still-life sculptures are fragile arrangements of photogenic material, created by the photographer over several years. Placed on specially designed studio plinths, they can be seen and recorded, turning the gallery into a place for visual interaction.
Whilst making this work, the photographer was interested in his own visual processes. He says, “I’d rather see something than look at it, but you can only see by looking. When you really see something you get the feeling.”
What you may find in this exhibition are physical manifestations of those feelings—an attempt at communicating his simple pleasures.
