Zuza Krajewska and Bartek Wieczorek talk to Ola Walków
I’m going to talk in simple sentences now, and not philosophise. That’s not the point. Hey, I never thought I’d be talking to you on Skype.
Why did I undergo breast-reduction surgery and photograph the process? It was a difficult time in my life. That work was an escape from what hurts, from the fact that I’m bleeding, that I can’t stand up straight—the sense that I have filters, drains, and foreign bodies in me. For me those photos were a form of therapy.
The first thing I thought of was beauty. Intuitively I felt that it would be useful. I called it beauty then, because that’s what I felt. Brutal beauty. But why I did it, I don’t know.
