For many years, a tradition of Krakow Photomonth has been SlideNites, open-air shows on a big screen. This year we are inviting you to two weekend evenings featuring gripping shows, spectacular presentations of photographic phenomena and more besides! You’ll have the opportunity to see a review of fresh, Polish documentary and press photography, and the next day to admire the work of the finalists of our new international competition in creative photo montage – photo.mov. The shows will be held in the garden of the Forum Przestrzenie club that has opened in Forum, the until recently abandoned 1980s hotel. This monumental lump of concrete will form the backdrop for the shows, whose viewers will be able to recline in comfortable deckchairs. Excellent conditions for savouring photography!

On 24 May, for one night the spaces by the Vistula will become a forum for discussion about Polish documentary photography. The show will be prepared by six leading institutions working in reportage and press photographs: PAP, Forum, Agencja Gazeta, East News as well as the photographers of the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland. Each of the agencies will prepare a short audiovisual presentation of the most interesting photographs taken by the photographers associated with them over the past year. This is an excellent opportunity to find out what Polish reportages look like, and to see great photos outside of their natural environment. In this case SlideNite is a chance to look carefully at photographs which we usually treat in purely functional terms, as illustrations to texts. Everyone is invited – not only reporters, but in particular the day-to-day users of press photography, readers of newspapers and online services. Let’s look for more in these photos than we do every day! 

 

 

 

25.05, FORUM Przestrzenie, ul. Konopnickiej 28

 

Come and see the final of the photo.mov competition on 25 May! Participants had the task of creating a short video piece, taking still photos as a base and bringing them to life using any montage techniques and soundtrack. The jurors – Wojciech Bąkowski, Aneta Grzeszykowska and Karol Radziszewski – chose the most interesting entries, whittling them down to three winners. The results of the competition will be announced on the banks of the Vistula during the presentation of the entries of all the finalists. SlideNite will show you how you can mix photography, and how to use still images to construct fascinating narratives or beautiful visual collages.
