PHOTOMONTH IN KRAKOW — 2010
MARIA ANNA POTOCKA, AUTHOR OF "PHOTOGRAPHY. THE EVOLUTION OF AN ARTISTIC MEDIUM"
On the book:
Photography is the third book by Maria Anna Potocka on artistic mediums. She demonstrates how photography was originally treated as a technical novelty, before transforming into a means of artistic expression. The evolution of this medium is considered in the context of the most important issues in photography: documentation, portraiture and the nude in the contexts of press, amateur and experimental photography, and photography treated as a work of art. The author changes perspectives, looking at issues in photography from various points of view, and emphasises this variability with diverse language strategies. The book also includes a list of a few hundred photographers from around the world, thus showing in as laconic a way possible how the work of each has had an effect on the expanded creative capacities of photography. An extensive glossary of photographic terms has been included for convenience.
