It’s Going on!

News date: 2010-05-15

With the weatherman predicting another rainy weekend and next to nobody heading out of town, you might consider actively spending your time in the city. Today’s guests at Photomonth will be: Beata ŁyĹźwa-Sokół – “Gazeta Wyborcza” (Poland), Krzysztof Miller – photographer, “Gazeta Wyborcza” (Poland), Harry Hardie – HOST Gallery (UK), Mikołaj Komar – “Kmag” (Poland), Jim Casper – “Lens Culture” (France), Karolina Sulej – “Exklusiv” (Poland), Łukasz Trzciński – photographer, Visavis.pl, Imago Mundi Foundation (Poland), Anna Theiss – “Dziennik” (Poland), Martin Kollar – photographer (Slovakia), Aleksandra Vajd – photographer (Slovenia), Filip Nidenthal – “PodróĹźe” (Poland), Robert Serek – “VICE” (Poland), Sebastian Kustra – “FUTU” (Poland), and Bill Kouwenhoven – “HotShoe Magazine” (Germany). The presence of so many photographers, photo-editors, editors, merchants, critics, and representatives of agencies, photography magazines and galleries can only mean one things: the time has come for the Portfolio Review! This one-day event is aimed at both experienced photographers and who are just setting off on their road, and involves a series of short meetings with professionals, who are ready to offer their knowledge and experience, and to show participants further opportunities for development. At the present moment our invited guests are fully booked, and so those who have not managed to send in their application forms are kindly directed to the other events.

The specifics of the medium of photography are the point of departure for the performances made by the direction faculty of the Theatre Academy in Krakow, on the grounds of the onetime Erdal Factory, at the AWF football field, and in the Jagiellonian University’s botanical gardens. We’ll meet at high noon at the Erdal factory (see the map of performances by the Theatre Academy in Krakow).

If you still don’t feel satiated, go from Erdal to the opening of the post-competition exhibition for Press Photo of the Year 2009, for a talk on the legal aspects of sales and the legal use of photography by an artist, and the “Pop Culture” meeting, concerning the difference between taking snapshots and photographs. The day closes with a meeting with Adam Mazur, and the premiere of his latest, most impressive book, The History of Photography in Poland 1839–2009.

See you there!
